Garden Designer in Ilkley
Garden planning and design isn't always as straight forward as you might first think. There are many things that may influence your garden space. Not least of them, your idea of your dream garden. Philip Nettleton is a Garden Designer in Ilkley is an authority on this very topic and we've worked with many happy clients to bring them the garden of their dreams. Here's how we do it.
ConsultationFollowing the initial contact I will arrange to meet you at your home. This is an opportunity to meet me and for me to see your garden and get a feel for the space.
My aim at this stage is to find out what you would like from your garden; particular likes and dislikes, and any gardens or designers that may have inspired you. I will explain the whole design process and payment terms. If you are happy to proceed we will agree on the overall brief, and once a contract has been drawn up and approved by all, work can begin. |
SurveyThe garden’s dimensions are measured and recorded along with garden levels.
Flora and fauna are noted, plants and features to be retained are plotted, as are those to be removed. Photographic records, sketches and diagrams are made at this point. As well as soil samples being taken. This goes along with all notes on every aspect of the garden space. For complicated sites it may be necessary to employ the services of a specialist surveyor. |
Concept PlanFollowing your brief as closely as possible I will draw up a concept plan. This is a detailed scale plan of the proposed new garden showing all the features, both retained and proposed new ones. It will be hand drawn and coloured with perspective drawings and cross sections illustrating different ‘views’ within the garden.
At this point the client can make suggestions for alterations. Once the concept plans have been approved and signed off, we can move on to the master plan and construction drawings. |
Master PlanThis is the technical scale drawing giving all the details necessary for a contractor to interpret the concept and build the garden.
It will be accompanied by detailed construction drawings and specifications - the equivalent of an architect’s blueprint - which carries specifications for materials to be used, techniques and standards of workmanship expected. If required, I can invite tenders from prospective contractors and draw up contracts on your behalf. |
