Garden Design - Case Study - Skipton

Follow our case study as we create a new seating area within this garden for our client. Where once lay a garden, unkept and in need of attention. We transformed this featureless space into our client's dream garden, complete with Arbour, to enjoy the new view.

Garden Planning in Skipton- The Brief

Welcome to the garden of our client. We're going to call her Felicity (which isn't her real name)! Felicity contacted me and asked whether I might be able to help with her Garden Design project. What was required was a low-maintenance, dog-friendly garden, which also provides a variety of colour throughout the British Seasons.

Garden Planning in Skipton- The Survey

Surveying the plot means that the measurements and vital details of the landscape, soil types and natural features (or hindrances) can be identified and labeled on the plan above. This initial plan along with sketches and drawings are what form the base for the new plans to come. (This is why I refer to this as the "Base Plan").

Garden Planning in Skipton- The Concept Plan

The initial concept to fulfil the brief for Felicity was to keep the plan simple. Encompassing the dog-friendly aspects includes a low stone retaining wall, separating away the borders and preventing digging!
Low-maintenance was the second priority and this beautiful concept will be achieved by carefully chosen shrubs and perennial plants.

As for a variety of colour throughout the seasons, well again, the choice of flora here means that there will always be something bright and beautiful of interest to watch. What's more, now there will be a new, beautiful Arbour, to view it from.
